This book is the first in the teacher professional development series, dealing with Difference. This series aims to highlight and provide teaching directions and strategies for working with students who, because of some perceived ‘difference’, sometimes fall through the cracks of formal school structures. It is divided into 4 sections: strangers in a Strange land, Cultural Inclusivity and Awareness, A New Country, a new school, An effective ESL programme. This volume comprise a selection of papers that were presented at the RELC Regional Seminar on New Trends in the Language Syllabus Design. The authors are scholars and educationists who have recently been involved in the design and development of syllabuses and course for language teaching.
