Just as nursery rhymes learned as a child are never forgotten, simple songs with well-known melodies can be used to teach language both to children and adults. The songs in “Simple Songs for Pupils and Puppets - Second Language Conversations” are designed to teach basic grammar using questions and answers on a variety of themes.
 
The book provides class teachers and music teachers, with well-known songs with new lyrics which are designed to teach basic grammar through conversation. Suggestions are included for the use of puppets to help motivate younger children. A CD of the songs and of the accompaniments is provided as part of the kit.
• Songs and games teach a variety of concepts through song, for example: colours, time, calendar, shapes, parts of the body, numbers, movement.
• Some songs may be adapted easily to demonstrate and teach functional language structure such as pronouns, verb changes, tenses.
• Some songs require individual and group responses which will encourage concentration, co-ordination, and confidence with language, music and movement.
 
These songs can be used effectively in any language because the repeated phrases do not require a rhyme for the final phrase. They can be easily modified so that they can be used for all age levels. Teachers of any language may prepare their own translations, and modify them for all age groups and levels.
