Graded readers are "easy reading" books used to support the extensive reading approach to teaching languages. The Drum graded readers are written with specific levels of grammatical complexity in mind and with vocabulary that is limited by frequency headword counts. The series is divided into ten levels ranging for level 1 with 200 headwords up to level 10 which includes 3,000 headwords. Each level consists of 8 stories which recycle all new headwords no less than 10 times, giving ample exposure to each new word introduced to maximize their acquisition.
